The season might have started for the Baltimore Orioles, but the transactions haven’t stopped.
According to multiple industry sources, the Orioles have acquired right-hander Cody Poteet from the Chicago Cubs in exchange for cash considerations.
The name might be familiar to many baseball fans, as Poteet was the solo piece in the trade that sent former MVP Cody Bellinger to the New York Yankees this past offseason.
The 30-year-old Poteet carried a 2.22 ERA in 24.1 innings during the 2024 season with the Yankees. He does have 24 career games under his belt in the MLB and has a 5-4 record with a 3.80 ERA in 83 total innings.
For the Orioles, the move means added depth to a pitching staff that is currently without Grayson Rodriguez, Trevor Rogers, Chayce McDermott, Kyle Bradish and Tyler Wells due to injuries.
Poteet was sent to the Triple-A Norfolk Tides roster for the time being, and he does have two minor league options left. The 40-man roster is now at 39.
