With February in full swing, the MLB offseason is winding down, but that doesn’t mean the Birds stop doing their part within the community.
Recently, the Baltimore Orioles teamed up with the Greater Baltimore Urban League (GBUL) to read children’s books written by Black authors at local elementary schools.
As a way to help promote Black History Month, the Orioles and the GBUL wanted to highlight African American authors promoting diverse influences among the school’s children.

The GBUL, which celebrated its 100th year in November of 2024, is a vibrant community that fosters economic empowerment, educational opportunities and social justice for all.
The GBUL stood with the National Urban League and various other civil rights organizations in condemning the federal government, which recently tried to freeze federal funding for essential programs. The attempt to hold funding was recently pulled back.

The primary mission of the GBUL is ensuring African Americans and other minority groups secure economic self-reliance, parity, power and civil rights. They believe in the strength of community and the powerful impact of collection action.
The Orioles continue to do their part in the community by focusing on education and making sure that children from local schools are prepared for the remaining school year and are thriving in the surrounding community.

As the future of the city and possible leaders of tomorrow, the Birds and the GBUL will continue to work together to strengthen the community through various efforts and teamwork.
We hope you have enjoyed Season 3 of Around the Nest. It’s one of our favorite series that we provide during the offseason.
However, spring training is beginning this week, and that means this series comes to a close once again until November. We thank you for keeping up with this series every single week.
