MLB Pipeline has announced their 2025 Top 100 Prospects list, and we saw two Orioles make the cut.
While that might not seem like many, those two Orioles are a part of the top 15 prospects in the entirety of Major League Baseball. They’re also going to be a big part in the future of this organization.
Let’s take a look at the two O’s prospects who made the list.
COBY MAYO – NO. 14
The first of the two prospects is third baseman, Coby Mayo, a former 2020 draft pick by the Orioles that in 2024 took a major jump within the organization.
Mayo started the season with the Triple-A Norfolk Tides and put together a solid campaign, posting a .926 OPS in 89 total games. He tallied 99 hits, 22 home runs, 23 doubles and knocked in 67 RBIs.
This was good enough for Mayo to make his major league debut in August.
However, Mayo struggled in the majors as he compiled a .098 batting average in 17 games and 41 at-bats. He had just four hits, walked four times and struck out 22 times while holding a .294 OPS.
While this doesn’t look promising, remember that the adjustment from Triple-A to the majors takes time. Gunnar Henderson, Adley Rutschman and Jackson Holliday all had troubles adjusting at the big league level when they first got the call.
Mayo finished as the eighth best prospect in the 2024 season and was named the best third baseman prospect, an honor that he also received in 2025.
SAMUEL BASALLO – NO. 13
The other prospect is one who has been a prominent name within the Orioles organization for the 2025 season. Samuel Basallo is a catcher who is on the brink of making his major league debut.
Basallo’s 2024 season consisted of change and adjustment. After an injury scare to his elbow during spring training, Basallo took reps at first base to still be able to play for the Baysox to start the season. He put up great numbers, hitting .289 with an .820 OPS in 106 games, tallying 115 hits, 22 doubles and 16 home runs.
Basallo would eventually get called up to Norfolk, where he played 21 games and had a short divot of stats. He hit just .222, had a .637 OPS and collected just six extra-base hits in total of 18.
Basallo finished as the 13th best prospect in 2024 and finished as the best catching prospect in baseball, an honor, like Mayo, he would receive again in 2025.
