As most of us know, the Baltimore Orioles are battling for an AL East title with the New York Yankees.

Fittingly, the Birds open up a three-game series in New York to start the week, only they will be facing the Mets, who are fighting for an NL Wild Card spot themselves.

The Mets hold a 28-19 all-time lead in games against the Orioles, though this series will feel more like a playoff-style atmosphere, as both teams can not afford to come up short in this series.

The Orioles will host the AL-West-leading Houston Astros and NL-West-leading Los Angeles Dodgers after their trip to New York, with the next 10 games being a litmus test of sorts to see where Baltimore stands against other playoff caliber teams.

To open the series, the O’s will send Trevor Rodgers (2-11, 4.89 ERA) to the mound, still looking for his first victory as an Oriole. The 26-year-old is 2-3 with a 3.35 ERA in nine career games against the Mets. Rodgers will be followed by Dean Kremer (5-9, 4.48 ERA) and Zach Eflin (9-7, 3.72 ERA) to close the series out.

The Mets will send David Peterson (7-1, 3.04 ERA) to open the series against Baltimore. Peterson will be followed by José Quintana (6-8, 4.26 ERA) and Sean Manaea (9-5, 3.46 ERA) to round out the series.

BATTERY ❌-FACTOR

The Orioles have been a team on a roller coaster ride since the All-Star break. The dog days of summer are here, and since the break, the O’s are 15-14 and are having just as many lackluster performances as strong ones.

This series against the Mets has playoff implications for both teams, which will provide a tense and pressurized atmosphere. It is due to this fact that our BATTERY ❌-FACTOR for this series is the team energy.

Taking the series is the first step, and playing for a sweep would be a statement. The talent on the Orioles is there. It’s about time to step up, as the days are running thin.

The pressure is on, and under the bright lights of New York, the Birds can make some noise, as well as steer the energy for the postseason push in the right direction.

GAME 1 STARTING LINEUP

First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 p.m. EST for games one and two. Game three is slated to start at 1:10 p.m. EST to round out the series. You can catch the games on MASN or tune into your favorite local Orioles Radio Network station.

Will the Birds pull the worm out of the Big Apple, or will the New York spotlight prove to be too much? It all starts tonight at Citi Field in Flushing, Queens.
