According to multiple industry sources, the Orioles have signed veteran infielder Jean Segura to a minor league deal.

Segura, 34, has been out of affiliated ball for over a year, having been released by the Guardians at the start of August last year. He never played a game with the organization.

Over his 12 seasons as a pro, he’s played for the Philadelphia Phillies, Milwaukee Brewers, Seattle Mariners, Arizona Diamondbacks, Los Angeles Angels and Miami Marlins.

Over his career, the Dominican native has slashed .281/.327/.401 with a .729 OPS. In a little over 1,400 big league games, Segura has collected 1,545 career hits, with 110 home runs, 513 RBIs and 211 stolen bases.

Segura is a two-time All-Star and also finished 13th in NL MVP voting in 2016 with the Diamondbacks, when he led the league in hits with 203.

This move comes just two days after the O’s signed fellow veteran infielder J.D. Davis to a minor league deal. Like Davis, Segura will report to the Triple-A Norfolk Tides.

We would like to welcome Jean Segura to Birdland and wish him nothing but the best in his time with the Orioles organization.
