Folks, it is time. We will finally get to see Coby Mayo in an Orioles uniform.

According to MASN’s Roch Kubatko, the O’s No. 3 overall prospect is en route to meet the major league squad in Cleveland.

It was a topic of discussion shortly after the trade deadline whether we would see Mayo. Austin Hays was lost in a deal to the Phillies, followed by losing Connor Norby to the Marlins in a separate deal. Just like that, two right-handed bats are gone. And then, Jordan Westburg takes a pitch to his right hand. Three down.

Now, our question is answered. We will see Mayo.

It is absolutely no surprise that Mayo has been the best of the best in Triple-A this season. He currently holds a ridiculous slash line of .308/.384/.619 and a 1.003 OPS in 315 at-bats.

The 22-year-old will bring a powerful bat into this lineup that desperately needs it from the right side. Mayo’s 23 home runs this year have him well on pace to double his Triple-A season-high of 29, which was achieved last season in 140 at-bats.

Defensively is where the questions arose about Mayo. He has spent a lot of time at third base, where his defense hasn’t always been all that great. Looking at it realistically, what you get out of that bat far outweighs the defense, and with that being said, he does still play solid defense at both corner infield positions.

Baltimore took Mayo out of high school in the fourth round of the truncated 2020 MLB Draft. He signed for an above slot $1.75 million bonus and has ripped through minor league pitching at every level since that point.

It is unclear if Mayo will slot into the third base role in place of Ramón Urías or if he will work out as a platoon bat, potentially DHing and playing some first base. It’s also unknown who he will replace on the 26-man roster at this time.

Either way, Coby Mayo is here. Welcome to the big leagues, kid!
