With he first series after the All-Star break in the books, a two-game lead in the AL East and a day off to boot, the Baltimore Orioles are flying high.

The Birds will head to the Sunshine State where they will take on the Miami Marlins for a three-game inter-league series and start a stretch of 12 games in 12 days.

To start the series, Albert Suárez (5-3, 2.82 ERA) will open the first game and will be followed by a to be determined starter on Wednesday and Corbin Burnes (10-4, 2.38 ERA) on Thursday. Although, it was reported Tuesday afternoon that the O’s have added top pitching prospect Chayce McDermott to the taxi squad.

On the other side, the Marlins have yet to announce a starter to open the series. They will send Edward Cabrera (1-3, 7.36 ERA) and Rod Muñoz (1-5, 5.14 ERA) to the mound to start games two and three, respectively.

The Orioles come in with an offense that is averaging the second most runs per game (4.98), while the Marlins’ pitching is ranked 27th, allowing five runs per game. On the flip side, the Orioles’ pitching is ninth, allowing 4.06 runs a game, where as the Marlins are near the bottom of the league with 3.49 runs scored per game.

These trends lead us into our BATTERY ❌-FACTOR for the series.

BATTERY ❌-FACTOR

The Orioles find themselves taking on a sub-.500 team, something they didn’t do a lot of in the first half.

Unfortunately, when they did, they struggled against those teams, having issues putting them away and failing to get the offense going. That’s why for this series, our BATTERY ❌-FACTOR is to keep the foot on the gas pedal and jump out early and quickly against the Marlins.

Miami already struggles pitching-wise. Forcing them to get into the pen earlier will only exasperate that issue and make it harder for them to stay in the games against the Orioles, which could lead to another series victory for the Birds.

ROSTER MOVES

As mentioned earlier, the Orioles added their No. 7 overall and top pitching prospect, right-hander Chayce McDermott, to the taxi squad prior to the start of this three-game set.

With Wednesday’s starter listed as TBD, it’s looking quite likely that the 25-year-old could make his major league debut in game two.
