The second half has finally arrived. It was a long four days without the Orioles, and thankfully, we are back.
At the beginning of this second half, our Orioles are traveling to meet the All-Stars in Arrington, Texas, for a showdown against the Rangers.
The Birds enter this second half atop the AL East by a game at 58-38, while the Rangers come in at 46-50, sitting third in the AL West.
The last time these two teams met a little under a month ago, the Birds took three of four from Texas, which is still trying to recover from their World Series hangover.
The rotation match-ups for this series will feature the O’s All-Star starter, with Corbin Burnes (9-4, 2.43 ERA) facing off against Nathan Eovaldi (6-3, 2.97 ERA) in game one. Game two will feature Grayson Rodriguez (11-4, 3.88 ERA) against Max Scherzer (1-2, 2.96 ERA), and game three will see Dean Kremer (4-5, 4.38 ERA) vs. Andrew Heaney (3-10, 3.79 ERA).
The Orioles hope to get off on a better foot than the one they left the first half on. Yes, the first half ended on a wildly exciting walk-off victory. However, that helped mask an absolutely horrid stretch of offense over the last week before the break.
BATTERY ❌️-FACTOR
That leads right into our BATTERY ❌️-FACTOR: hitting with runners in scoring position.
That latest stretch before the break was awful offensively. There simply is no other way to put it. The O’s hit under .100 with RISP for over a week.
To find success in Texas, the O’s absolutely have to capitalize. This is not a stadium where you generally will hit many home runs, and unless the offense again begins to take better at-bats with RISP, we may see a serious lack of scoring.
GAME 1 STARTING LINEUP
This series kicks off on Friday evening at 8:05 p.m. EST on MASN2. Games two and three will both also be on MASN2, with start times of 7:05 p.m. and 2:35 p.m. EST, respectively.
