The last time the Oakland Athletics and the Baltimore Orioles met, the A’s gave the O’s more than they expected.
Oakland took two of three in Baltimore, with Craig Kimbrel blowing two save opportunities, as the Orioles were left shell shocked.
Time has passed, and the Birds are now in first place, looking to make a strong postseason run, while the A’s are getting ready to sell off high profile pieces as their time is ending in Oakland.
The Orioles just took two of three on from the Seattle Mariners on the first leg of their West Coast trip. Now, they look to take a series against the pesky A’s, the Birds’ last series in the Oakland Coliseum.
The O’s will send Albert Suárez (4-2, 2.43 ERA) to the mound to open the series. He will be followed by rookie Cade Povich (1-2, 4.05 ERA) and Grayson Rodriguez (10-3, 3.45 ERA) to close it out.
For the Athletics, Hogan Harris (1-2, 3.18 ERA) will open the series on the bump. He will be followed by Luis Medina (1-3, 4.80 ERA) and RHP Mitch Spence to close the series.
The Orioles have won six of their last eight games and hold a two-game lead over the New York Yankees in the AL East. The Athletics are coming off a sweep of the Angels, when they pitched back-to-back shutouts. This leads us directly into our BATTERY ❌-FACTOR for the series.
BATTERY ❌-FACTOR
The last time these two teams met, the Athletics came in determined to win and take down a top team, which they did. Coming off a sweep and looking to win four in a row for the second time this season, they are on a high and looking to pester the Orioles again.
For the Birds to win this series, they need to play their game and not play down to their competition. The Athletics will not be an easy opponent, as they have a young nucleus and are looking to show their record doesn’t represent the talent on their roster.
If the Orioles focus on their game, not making costly mistakes and capitalize on scoring opportunities, they can win this series. Just play the brand of baseball that has gotten you to this point.
GAME 1 STARTING LINEUP
Fun Fact: The Orioles are 144-146 lifetime at the Oakland Coliseum. This is the final meeting these teams will have in Oakland, as the Athletics will play in Sacramento next season.
Game one is scheduled to have a first pitch at 9:40 p.m. EST, as games two and three are scheduled to begin at 4:07 p.m. EST. As always, you can catch each game on MASN2 or on your local Orioles Radio Network station.
Will the Birds end their Coliseum visit on a high note, or will the Athletics continue to pester the Orioles and create havoc in the American League?
