The early 2024 season has already seen Colton Cowser and Jordan Westburg collect weekly accolades, as the Baby Birds have become the driving force behind the Orioles’ vault into first place in the AL East.

As the month of May has rolled around, it appears that the Birds aren’t finished at just weekly accolades.

Star shortstop Gunnar Henderson has been awarded AL Player of the Month for April.

Helping to guide the Orioles to a 20-11 record and tied for the best record in the American League. Henderson had a .980 OPS, 10 home runs, 24 RBIs and six stolen bases while making spectacular plays defensively.

The catalyst for the Orioles, sporting the best mark against teams over .500 (14-5), Henderson continues to dazzle and turn heads, becoming the youngest player ever to hit 10 home runs before the month of May and is tied with Mike Trout for the AL home run lead.

If Henderson is the superstar catalyst, then Colton Cowser is becoming the delivery man in his early career. The Milkman has quickly established himself as a formidable force in Baltimore’s lineup.

Cowser is slashing .301/.373/.644 with 13 extra-base hits, six home runs, 18 RBIs, 11 runs scored and a 1.1 WAR. He ranks among the MLB leaders in hard-hit rate (52.2%), average exit velocity (91 mph), barrel rate (17.4%) and expected slugging percentage (.555).

This is the first time in team history that the O’s have claimed AL Player and Rookie of the Month in the same month.

We would like to congratulate both Henderson and Cowser on their most recent honors and look forward to many more to follow in another magical season.
