The Baltimore Orioles just keep adding to their minor league depth, as it was just announced by multiple sources that veteran infielder Kolten Wong has been signed to a minor league deal.

Wong, 33, is entering his 11th season in the professionals and will be playing with his fifth team overall. The Hilo, Hawaii, native will enter an Orioles team with so much infield depth, including players like Ramón Urías, Jordan Westburg and Jorge Mateo, just to name a few.

Wong’s career consists of playing in 1,189 games and slashing .256/.330/.390 with a .719 OPS. He has 973 total hits, 186 doubles, 31 triples and 86 home runs to his name. He also has 120 stolen bases in 158 attempts.

Wong’s defense is what makes him the player that he is. The two-time Gold Glove winner in 2019 and 2020 and having a career fielding percentage of .980 are big reasons why Wong is a solid addition for the Orioles.

Wong is the third second baseman in three years to be signed by the Orioles (Adam Frazier in 2023 and Rougned Odor in 2022). Both times, the veteran exceeded expectations and had pretty solid seasons.

Because Wong is a free agent with at least six years of MLB service time and finished the previous season on a club’s 40-man roster or 60-day injured list, he has an automatic opt-out clause if he doesn’t make the Opening Day roster.

Welcome to Birdland, Kolten Wong!
