The Orioles decide to keep adding depth, striking a deal for Miami Marlins outfielder and former top organizational prospect, Peyton Burdick.

Burdick, who will turn 27 later this month, was acquired on Wednesday in exchange for cash considerations. He fills out the Orioles’ 40-man roster, as the team officially placed closer Félix Bautista on the 60-day injured list.

Burdick was originally drafted by the Marlins in the third round of the 2019 MLB Draft out of Wright State University. The Ohio native made his big league debut back in August of 2022 in a game against the Chicago White Sox.

In just 46 games in the majors, Burdick has slashed .200/.281/.368 with a .649 OPS. He’s collected 25 total hits, six doubles and five home runs. Burdick has also tallied 13 RBIs, 12 runs and stole two bases in two attempts.

In 396 minor league games, Burdick has a slash line of .235/.353/.457 with an .810 OPS. In over 1,700 plate appearances, the six-foot, 205-pound outfielder has collected 340 total hits with 73 home runs and 249 RBIs.

Burdick does have better-than-average sprint speed and scouting reports on the 2019 No. 82 overall draft pick have suggested that he has the tools necessary to stick in center field, or at the very least, to profile as an above-average to plus defender in the corners.

Burdick does have a pair of minor league options remaining, so the Orioles can stash him in Triple-A Norfolk and rely on him as a bench option behind a deep and talented outfield that features a nice mix of veteran contributors and fast-rising prospects.

Welcome to Birdland, Peyton Burdick!
