Free agent news out of Baltimore has hit the presses, though it’s a minor move, as the Orioles have signed outfielder Daniel Johnson, according to Roch Kubatko of MASN.
Johnson was a fifth-round draft pick by the Washington Nationals back in 2016 out of New Mexico State.
The 28-year-old lefty has been a part of the Nationals, Guardians, Mets and Padres minor league systems and made his big league debut in July of 2020.
Last season, Johnson played with the Padres’ Double-A and Triple-A affiliates, hitting 19 home runs and stealing 30 bases. He slashed .271/.348/.469 across 126 games while driving in 73 and scoring 79 runs.
Johnson is a career .269/.335/.449 hitter with 144 doubles, 29 triples, 89 homers, 339 RBIs and 108 stolen bases in seven minor league seasons and 679 games. He hit four home runs in 89 at-bats during his time in the big leagues.
Johnson will compete for playing time with Kyle Stowers, Terrin Vavra and Hudson Haskin, among others. He has one minor league option remaining and can play all three outfield spots.
We would like to welcome Daniel Johnson to Birdland.
