A trade by the Baltimore Orioles has taken place, and, no, it’s not the one a lot of us expected.

Instead, it was a small trade with Detroit Tigers to bring former Oriole Tyler Nevin back to Baltimore in exchange for cash considerations.

Nevin spent time in the organization from 2020-2022, as originally a part of the Mychal Givens trade that sent the right-handed reliever to Colorado. Nevin only saw 64 games in orange and black between 2021 and 2022, resulting in a total of nine extra-base hits and 19 runs batted in.

Nevin’s time as an Oriole came to a close at the end of 2022 when he was traded to Detroit for cash. He now returns in the same fashion.

In 41 games with the Tigers last season, the son of former big leaguer and manager, Phil Nevin, hit .200/.306/.316 with two home runs, 10 RBIs and 11 runs scored.

Nevin’s return could mean a few things. Firstly, it simply could be minor league depth, which is an always needed yet overlooked part of building a system. Secondly, he could be seen still as a talented enough high-level minor leaguer who serves the purpose of replacing another minor leaguer(s) who could be on the move in the near future.

Whatever reason it may be for the acquisition of Nevin, Birdland certainly welcomes back his presence.
