The Baltimore Orioles have announced a roster move today, as they have claimed left-hander Tucker Davidson off waivers from the Kansas City Royals.
Davidson, 27, was drafted from Midland College in the 2016 MLB Draft and made his big league debut late in the 2020 season, bouncing around the league since his debut.
He first pitched for the Atlanta Braves during the COVID season and stayed in Atlanta until the 2022 season, when he would be traded alongside Jesse Chavez to the Los Angeles Angels for Raisel Iglesias. Davidson would pitch for the Halos midway through the 2023 season until the Kansas City Royals would claim him.
Davidson has pitched in 55 games in the majors, starting 17 of them. He has a 3-10 record with a 5.98 ERA in 125 innings pitched and has given up 136 hits, 83 earned runs, 66 walks and has struck out 99 batters. He also has two saves and a WHIP of 1.62.
While Davidson’s numbers don’t jump off the page, he has improved recently due to a new pitch he has developed. Davidson, in 2023, developed a splitter, and it was highly effective throughout the season to the point where it became his best pitch and was considered his punchout pitch.
The Orioles 40-man roster is now set at 40 with the acquisition of Davidson. This is more than likely an Elias depth piece, with Davidson having an opportunity to prove himself this coming spring if he stays in the organization until then.
