One of the greatest parts of being a part of The Baltimore Battery is the family we have built within.

Sure, we get to write and report about our favorite team, the Baltimore Orioles, their players and minor league affiliates. But it’s the atmosphere that we have created with each other and the bond that runs deeply throughout.

On Friday, September 15, the Orioles were hosting the Tampa Bay Rays. Adam Jones was reunited with the organization and retired as an Oriole forever. Former players were in the house, and a division race was happening all at the same time.

It was a special night full of excitement. Though the Birds would drop the game, joy and an electric stadium of passionate fans, embracing what our team was doing as they matched towards a postseason birth, made the night special.

But another thing happened as well, not with much fanfare as it wasn’t an Orioles sanctioned moment, but it was a moment that culminated in a family building a deeper and closer bond than before.

Attendance came in at an announced 43,359 in attendance, but it was five of those fans that had a deeper and stronger moment than what the game could provide.

Jared Watson, Justin Suptin, Zachary Bucklew, Jason Benowitz and myself, Stephen Heckman, were all in attendance, giving The Baltimore Battery a strong presence at one of the biggest games of the year.

Though we were spread throughout the stadium, we all have different perspectives and views of the game and the interactions with fellow fans, we made sure that the day would be culminated in one moment, showing a part of our family coming together.

Though Jason unfortunately had to leave before the conclusion of the night, he was with us and a part of this magical moment that was about to take place.

As the hellos and greetings were exchanged, you could feel a moment that encased everything we do here, coming to a head. While we share and provide updates, news and stories for our fellow fans and followers to read, it reaffirmed that it could only happen because we are a family that shares the same passion and love for our beloved Birds that our fellow fans share.

We have different views, thoughts and even differences of opinions on certain topics, but the bond created by our collective works and ideas has developed into a family, a trait that we share with our 2023 Baltimore Orioles.

As with our team, they look to each other and support each other through the highs and lows, the easy stretches and the tough battles. They know that their family will fight to the end and not turn their back to them.

At The Battery, we have that inside our family. We are there through the highs and lows, the good and bad and the tough stretches that life can throw our way. We will stand by each other and defend each other every step of the way.

Not because we have to. Because we want to and because that is what family does. Like the Orioles, we have something special we know we are experiencing together.

On this night, that magic was witnessed. Though our Orioles lost, in the end, The Baltimore Battery won, and it’s a moment that will live forever.
