The Orioles had been on a tear heading into the month of June. However, June itself was obviously not the greatest month, as the team went 13-11.

The O’s offense was average at the plate, slashing .251/.309/.421 with a .730 OPS in 24 total games, 808 at-bats. They collected 203 total hits, 40 doubles, two triples, 31 home runs and had 103 RBIs. They also went 15-for-21 in stolen bases.

The pitching was not at their best, as the staff carried a 4.55 ERA in 213.2 innings pitched. The O’s gave up 215 total hits, 108 earned runs, 31 home runs, walked 67 batters and struck out 238 in June. They also had a combined 1.32 WHIP and held batters to a .257 batting average.

But, in all the team stats, four players really showed out in the month of June and deserve recognition.

AUSTIN HAYS – OF

Austin Hays? Nah, it’s All-Star Hays!

Hays had a month to remember as his bat showed out, and he continues to be an absolute force at the plate. Hays played in 24 games and slashed .326/.363/.484 with a .847 OPS in 95 at-bats. He had 31 total hits, 15 runs, nine doubles, two home runs and 11 RBIs.

DANNY COULOMBE – LHP

Coulombe’s June was probably one of the better months of his entire career.

In nine total games, Coulombe went 0-0 with a 2.57 ERA in seven innings pitched. He gave up five hits, two earned runs, two walks and struck out nine batters. He also held batters to a .192 batting average and had a WHIP of 1.00.

GUNNAR HENDERSON – INF

I mean, he was named the AL Rookie of the Month in June for a reason.

Gunnar Henderson’s June was nothing short of excellent and was something that he needed to show that he belonged in the big leagues. In 20 games, Henderson slashed .320/.354/.640 with a .994 OPS in 75 total at-bats and had 24 total hits, four doubles, one triple, six home runs and 16 RBIS. He also stole three bases and walked four times.

FÉLIX BAUTISTA – RHP

Just like Henderson, they named him AL Reliever of the Month in June for a reason.

Bautista was lights out in the month of June. In 10 games, ‘The Mountain’ went 0-0 with a 0.84 ERA in 10.2 innings pitched and gave up just six hits and one earned run, while walking no one and striking out 22 batters.

Bautista faced 39 total batters, which means he struck out 56.4% of batters he faced. He also picked up seven saves in eight opportunities and continues to be one of the best closers in baseball.

There were also some other stats that were impressive for players who didn’t make the cut.

  • Yennier Canó: 7 holds and a 1.74 ERA
  • Anthony Santander: 5 home runs
  • Ryan O’Hearn: 21 total hits
  • Aaron Hicks: 14 walks

There were also some great moments that were worth looking at.

  • June 4: Josh Lester collects his first MLB hit against the Giants
  • June 11: Gunnar Henderson hits the longest home run recorded on Eutaw Street at 462 feet
  • June 13: Gunnar Henderson hits his first career grand slam
  • June 24: Ryan McKenna hits a two-run home run to walk off the Mariners
  • June 26: Jordan Westburg makes his MLB Debut and collects his first career hit, run and RBI
