Up next on The Baltimore Battery’s Prospect Profiles Countdown is left-handed outfielder, Kyle Stowers. Turning 22 in early January, Stowers was drafted by the Orioles 71st overall in the June draft of 2019.

Scouting grades: Hit: 45 | Power: 55 | Run: 45 | Arm: 50 | Field: 50 | Overall: 45

As a stud in college, Stowers looks to be a solid draft pick. At Stanford in 2018, Stowers hit .286, accompanied with 42 RBI and 10 home runs. However, some strikeout issues are present, as Stowers struck out 59 times in 58 games that season.

In the Cape Summer League, Stowers showed he can also hit with a wooden bat. In 34 games, Stowers hit .326 from the left side.

2019 was a breakout year for the young slugger. Being at the top of his team in battering average (.303), runs batted in (39), and OPS (.892), Stowers planted himself a spot in the eyes of the Orioles front office entering the draft.

Playing his first minor league season with the Aberdeen Ironbirds, Stowers shows promise as a power-hitting outfielder. In 55 games, Stowers hit six home runs, 13 doubles, and had 23 RBI.

The swing and misses are still a thorn in the side for Stowers, as he racked up 53 K’s in those 55 games. However, a good walk potential helped keep his OPS up there (.667), with 77 total bases on the year.

On the defensive side, Stowers is a solid corner outfielder, who never went under a .974 fielding percentage in college or the minors.

For the Orioles, who are lack luster in the outfield, this is a prospect that offers hope. Being only 22, Stowers is another kid who has time to develop, as he learns the professional game in the Orioles minor league system.

One response to “Prospect Profiles: No. 12 overall Kyle Stowers”

  1. I think Stowers is a solid prospect! If he goes to Delmarva this season, could be a really good outfield with John Rizer if he returns!
